SPECIALTY
AUTO APPRAISER/VALUE INVESTIGATIONS provides
appraisals that determine the diminished value of a vehicle given the
severity of
the accident and the overall quality of repairs. The questions and
answers
below will give our customers a better understanding of the appraisal
process
and what they can expect once the appraisal is completed.
What
is diminution of Value? Diminution of value
represents the vehicles decrease in
market value after it has suffered a collision affecting the frame
(unibody/chassis), sheet metal, suspension and/or the drive train
(engine or
transmission). The diminished value represents the market stigma for
structurally damaged vehicles even though repairs were to industry
standards.
That is, once the structural integrity of the vehicle has been
compromised the
market ees the vehicle as previously damaged goods, and is therefore
unwilling
to pay normal market value when given the option of purchasing a like,
undamaged vehicle.
What
does the appraisal entail? The appraisal process
requires a visual inspection of the
vehicle, a review of the final repair estimate plus any supplemental
costs, a
test-drive where applicable and includes a series of photographs
depicting
the vehicle in its post repaired condition. The inspection process
takes about
one-hour and a report is usually ready within 10 working days. For
those
vehicles that cannot be visually inspected the loss of value can be
established
by reviewing the original repair estimate including any and all
supplements,
reviewing pre-repair photos of the damaged vehicle and an interview
with the
owner of the vehicle regarding the nature of the collision and the
resulting
damage.
What
do I receive in the form of an appraisal? You are
provided with an appraisal, given the severity of
the collision damage and the quality of the repairs, as to how much the
vehicle
has lost in it's retail market value after the repairs are completed,
as
compared to what it was worth just prior to the collision. This then is
the
estimated loss of market, or equity value, as a result of the collision
and
subsequent repairs.
What
do I do with the appraisal? Typically you submit
the appraisal, along with a demand
letter, to the person legally responsible for the collision damage.
This could
be either the individual who caused the accident, an attorney if they
are so
represented or the representative insurance company.
